THE VAVS
The Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service (VAVS) program partners closely with the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency to ensure that every veteran’s healthcare experience is as comfortable and dignified as possible. Our VAVS volunteers serve in VA hospitals and clinics across Michigan, providing companionship, coordinating recreational activities, and supplying comfort items —everything from books and blankets to coffee and conversation. By working alongside medical staff and leveraging MVAA’s “no-wrong-door” approach to benefits, we help break down barriers to care, streamline access to federal and state resources, and advocate for each veteran’s unique needs. Whether it’s arranging transportation for appointments, getting them the things they need, or simply sitting beside a veteran who needs someone to talk to, our goal is to make sure no one has to navigate their healthcare journey alone.
